The dancer and choreographer Pina Bausch (1940 - 2009) made an influential mark in the modern dance world and in 1972 she became the artistic director of the Wuppertal Opera Ballet which was later named Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch. Walter Vogel made many portraits of her and their deep friendship is reflected in many of their collaborative images.
